The Institute conducts testing of tractors, power tillers, combine harvesters, irrigation pumps, threshers , agricultural  tyres, engines, all kinds of farm implements and components. Detailed performance results are provided in the test reports released on each machine. The brief outline of various types of tests are as under:

  TRACTOR  TEST

Tractor test is carried out in accordance with IS:5994-1998 as    amended from time to time.   A tractor is subjected to the following tests & evaluation

Lab Tests

Checking of specifications

PTO performance test

Belt pulley test(optional)

Drawbar performance test

Power lift & hydraulic performance test

Brake test

Air cleaner oil pull over test

Noise measurement

Mechanical vibration measurement

Location of centre of gravity

Turning ability

Visibility

Field tests:- For Initial commercial tests 50 hrs and for batch test 40 hrs. of field tests with the following implements

Plough/ Rotavator(35 hrs. for I.C.T & 30 for Batch Test )

Puddling under actual field  condition  followed by Water Proof Test.(5 hrs.) for ICT and 5 hours each internal field condition and laboratory conditions respectively

* Note:- Depending upon implements & field conditions the duration with each implement can be altered.

Haulage test with 2/4 wheel trailers and the gross load recommended by the manufacturer.

Components & assembly inspection- to assess the wear, breakdowns, etc.

  POWER TILLER TEST

Performance evaluation of power tiller is conducted in accordance with IS:9935-2002 as amended from time to time.  A power tiller is put into the following   tests and evaluation:

Lab Tests

  Specification checking.

  Engine performance test.

  Rotary shaft performance test.

Drawbar performance test.

  Parking brake test.

Noise measurement.

Air cleaner oil pull over test.

Mechanical vibration measurement.

Turning ability test.

Chemical composition test and wear characteristics test of rotavator
     blades.

Field tests: For Initial commercial tests 75 hrs and for batch test 50 hrs. of field tests with the following implements

Mould board ploughing (10hrs.for I.C.T. only)

  Dry rotavation (40 hrs.for I.C.T & 25 hrs. for Batch tests)

Puddling under actual field condition ( 25 hrs for I.C.T. & Batch tests
      both)

*   Note:- Depending upon implements & field condtions the duration with each implement can be altered.

Haulage test

Components and assembly inspection : to assess the wear, breakdowns, etc.

COMBINE HARVESTER TEST:

Combine harvester testing is done in accordance with IS: 8122-1994 Part-I & IS: 8122-2000 Part-II as amended from time to time. A combine harvester is put to the following different tests:

Lab Tests

   Specification checking.

  Engine performance test.

Turning ability  test.

Location of centre of gravity test.

  Visibility test.

Brake performance test .

Air cleaner oil pull over test.

Mechanical vibration test.

  Noise measurement test.

Field tests:
200 hrs of field test on the following crops are performed

  Wheat harvesting .

  Paddy harvesting.

Any other crop (if recommended).

Component and assembly inspection: to assess the wear, breakdowns, etc.

TESTING OF MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENTS/MACHINES (On request) :

Paddy Transplanter :

The Institute is testing transplanters for evaluating   performance of the engine & field performance to assess suitability & its output in the field.

Tractor Tyres

Drive wheel tyres of tractors are being tested for assessing the performance on drawbar work as well as wear of tyres on dimension and on  mass basis per unit of time.

Irrigation Pumps

Irrigation pumps are being tested for  power requirement,   pressure discharge characteristics, efficiency etc. as per the requirement of relevant Indian Standards.

Power Units:

Power units viz. engines under ISI mark certification scheme or as requested by the manufacturers for different application

Tillage  &  Sowing Implements

Tillage & sowing equipments are being tested for material composition of soil engaging components and assessing the field performance for the intended purpose.
